Jarzyna's play was very well received by critics abroad. Theatre troupe TR Warszawa has already presented the play in Scotland and China. Magdalena Cielecka, who has the lead role, was awarded the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Festival.
In this uncompromising autobiographical approach to Kane's elusive and elliptical prose poem, the central character is a woman in the throes of a terrifying psychological ordeal.
Throughout the play, Magdalena Cielecka (as Sarah Kane’s nameless avatar) confronts a series of figures who try to reason with her: a close friend, a male doctor, another patient, a female lover; until she ends up attacking her own psyche. Through anger, grief and despair we witness an intense performance in this heroic struggle for life.
In The Herald Scotland, Scott Clair commented on Cielecka's performance, calling it ‘unparalleled’ and ‘stunning’. He writes that:
It rarely happens that the audience doesn't know how to react after a play because the events that transpired seemed too real and painful to be followed by an applause.
The set was designed by Małgorzata Szczęśniak. Cast members include Mariusz Benoit, Rafał Maćkowiak and Katarzyna Herman.
