The biennale International Theatre Schools Festival MFST ITSelF opened on the 27th of June, and its final events take place in major Warsaw theatre venues until the 3rd of July 2011
The Festival is organised by the Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre Academy in Warsaw and is supported by the the Capital City of Warsaw and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. This year, the Festival was granted the Honorary Patronage of Bronisław Komorowski, the President of the Republic of Poland. With the initative supported by political and cultural celebrities, the prestige and scope of the event builds with evey edition. MFST ITSelF cooperates with leading Warsaw theatres, and has to this day hosted over 40 theatre schools from different continents, a number of guests from all over the world. The Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious events of the kind in the world ad the shows are always very popular with the audience.
The main objective of MFST ITSelF is to promote theatre culture and young talents of the stage and to share the rich variety of artistic experiences. By bringing young artists together, cultures are brought closer, and Poland plays the role of a country which supports and appreciates the influence of art on the development of society.
The Festival programme includes graduation productions from different schools, which take part in a competition. Numerous events also take place alongside the competition showings. Plays by fringe theatres, meetings with theatre and cinema celebrities, as well as first-time open theatre workshops for professionals and amateurs alike are all part of this year's programme.
