A member of the ILLO agency for top Polish illustrators, and one of the artists featured in the Lürzer's Archive's selection of 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide, Tymek Jezierski manifests a very confident and captivating approach to graphic design.
Tymek Jezierski works across a number of platofrms, ranging from magazines and book publications, to projects in public and domestic spaces. He is one of the artists working with Kiss My Wall – an agency offering custom-made indoor murals. His drawings appeared in books such as: Ostatni Koncert (The Last Concert, 2007), Płaszcz Ajewskiego (Ajewski’s Coat, 2008), Ilustrowany Elementarz Dizajnu (The Illustrated ABC of Design, 2013), Kalendarz 'Życie' ('Life' Calendar, 2013). The first two are graphic novels about the Warsaw Uprising, created in collaboration with Monika Powalisz. The duo received the First Prize in Warsaw Rising Museum’s competition for best comic book dealing with the subject matter for Ostatni Koncert.
Jezierski is the author of the series of posters for Chłodna 25 – a now non-existent café and arts venue in Warsaw which occupied a significant position in the local cultural life between 2004-2013. Chłodna 25 hosted regular concerts and other events that had contributed to opening up the local and national scene to the aspiring artists, and also acted as one of the central meeting places for the young creatives. Producing visual communication for such place thus meant more than just realizing commissions. In 2011, Jezierski was granted the Project of the Year Award ("Form" category) by the Association of Applied Graphic Designers (STGU) for the Chłodna 25 poster series. The jury justified their choice:
The jury's decision to award Tymek Jezierski is due to the freedom inherent in his style, his sense of humour, and his natural feel for the tools and medium of graphic design. His posters for Chłodna 25 are simultaneously a creative continuation of the tradition of hand-drawn posters and an ironic commentary on this tradition. This prize is also a way of drawing attention to the phenomenon of club posters, which are created for a specific viewer and presented in specific places. This type of poster, it seems, is the most creative and the most in touch with the present time, and has become an elite medium which is more at home indoors and on a computer screen, than on an advertising pole in the city."
His style is both imaginative and comprehensible – it thus comprises features that are greatly valued in illustration. Moreover, his tendency to experiment with form and non-digital media, has led him to create projects that exceed design and lend themselves to the art exhibiting context.
Tymek Jezierski has in fact already shown his works in art galleries. The year 2010 saw him team up with his brother and business partner for the Brothers in Arms Studio, Jakub Jezierski, to co-create the exhibition VVariacje (VVariations) at the Kordegarda Gallery in Warsaw. The gallery’s interior decorations, carefully designed by Jakub, blended with the objects of art conceived by both of them. The result was a masterpiece of spatial composition that maximized the experience of creative output.
