Innovative designers with practical goals. Celebrated architects. Award-winning work in store and public design.
Paweł Garus and Jerzy Woźniak founded their studio, mode: lina, in 2009 in Poznań. Prior to this they had both been a part of Liong Lie/123DV architectural studio in Rotterdam. Their products are inspired by the needs of everyday people: They strive to create works that their customers will like and use for years. As they put it on their website, 'show us your breakfast and we’ll show you your kitchen'.
Now they have just won the EuroShop RetailDesign award in Shanghai. Garus and Woźniak have been recognised for their work on Jabłko Adama (Adam’s Apple) in Poznań. The competition brings together an international panel that decides the best concepts in store design and chooses three winners per year. The awards were presented as a part of C-Star, Shanghai’s International Trade Fair for Solutions and Trends all about Retail.
Jabłko Adama is a store where customers can buy and fix Apple products. The name was inspired by Apple’s name and the name of the store’s owner, Adam, while also being a play on words. The designers drew their inspiration from a typical fruit stand. They repurposed materials usually used for stands, and created a main table that resembles a market stall. Other items are kept in fruit storage boxes and the wall is decorated with paper bags that are usually used to carry apples. The contemporary design of the store reflects the innovation of Apple.
Prior to this award, Garus and Woźniak had also received several other prizes for other pieces: 'Favorite of Poland in the Życie w Architekturze competition; finalists for 'The Best Public Interior' award in Życie w Architekturze; ranked in 16 Best Architects under 40 by the Centre for Architecture and Design in Łódź; Honorary mention in FOORNI Fest; First place in Maciej Nowicki Awards; First place in 'ReVita Wielkopolsko!'; First place in Façade of the Year 2011; Third prize in Polish Interiors 2011; First place in FOORNI Fest 2011; Honorary mention in 'ReVita Wielkopolsko!' 2011; Award of Arsenal in the Extension Competition; Future Generation Award in 2011; Grand Prix in Maria Dokowicz Competition in 2010; and first place in 'Action Creation!' in Poznań. Their work has also been covered in various press releases across the country.
