ELMA comes from a family of medical doctors and scientists. She started her classical music education in primary school, finally changing the direction to jazz, and graduating from the Krakow School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in the vocal class under Marek Bałata.
She was awarded the prizes in jazz vocal contests: International Meetings for Jazz Vocalists in Zamość (2002) and Sing Jazz Blues in Lomża (2003). Then she has been trying for years to adapt her musicianship to the demands of her family tradition. This led her to gaining a PhD in music psychology (her doctoral thesis focused on psychological aspects of musical improvisation) and MSc in music therapy (improvisational approach). For her interdisciplinary activities ELMA was appreciated and awarded the prize by the Foundation for Polish Science. Both therapeutic and scientific experiences have been inspiring her musical sensitivity and visions, composing and improvising, as well as highly original language of vocal expression. Since the time of her music therapy studies in Scotland where she was performing a lot, as well as composing and recording music for theatre, ELMA became more and more convinced to narrow the path, and focus exclusively on music itself. The result is her phonographic debut HIC ET NUNC recorded in quartet with Verneri Pohjola, Dominik Wania and Maciej Garbowski.
