Plac Wilsona Metro Station in CNN Top 12
Although Warsaw's metro is not as extensive as the underground railways of cities such as London or Paris, one of its stations was chosen by CNN for its list of the most impressive metro stations in Europe.
The Soviets built some extraordinary metro stations but this 2005 effort, named after U.S. president Woodrow Wilson, showed that a capitalist Poland could come up with some beauties, too. Unless, as might appear, it was actually built by UFOs. − says the original CNN article.
Plac Wilsona Station, designed by the AMC - Andrzej M. Chołdzyński's studio, was opened in 2005. Its distinctive and original appearance – the ceiling covered with elliptical circles highlighted with many different colours - makes the station the most characteristic of all Warsaw’s Metro line. The station was previously awarded a Metro award for Best Recently Constructed Station at the 2008 Metrorail convention.
Apart from Plac Wilsona, the list also featured Westfriedhof, Munich; Komsomolskaya, Moscow; Westminster, London; T - Centralen, Stockholm and Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre, Paris, among others.
