KEXP-FM Presents Polish Bands at OFF on Youtube
Journalists from KEXP-FM, the cult Seattle-based radio station, recorded exceptional performances from 10 Polish groups at OFF Festival in Katowice. Coals, The Stubs, Hańba!, Sutari, Enchanted Hunters, Kristen, Olo Walicki Kaszebe II, Lautari, Małe Miasta, and Ukryte Zalety Systemu all played before the KEXP cameras.
Kevin Cole, director of radio programing, commented, “KEXP is thrilled to partner with the OFF festival in 2015, a beautifully curated festival featuring some of the best Polish bands alongside legends like Patti Smith and Ride, and newer projects like Run the Jewels and Young Fathers. KEXP exists to help people discover the greatest music being made. We look forward to sharing some of the amazing artists from Poland and beyond with the KEXP audience worldwide.”
Artur Rojek, director of the OFF Festival, added, “It’s a great privilege to be the second European music festival, after Iceland Airways, to partner with KEXP, and it confirms my belief that we’ve been heading in the right direction for the past ten years. It’s great to continue down that road in such excellent company. But KEXP’s presence at the OFF Festival is also an enormous opportunity for Polish artists, who will have a chance to reach out from Katowice to audiences all over the world.”
Journalists from KEXP-FM reported on the event, but more importantly they recorded live sessions with chosen artists, exposing listeners around the world to a range of Polish independent music – from the delicate songs of the duo Coals and Enchanted Hunters, through to the post-punk of Ukrytych Zalet Systemu and noisy ballads of Kristen, to ethnic avant-garde played on pots by Sutari and Małe Miasta’s experimental hip-hop.

OFF Festival and KEXP
The 2015 OFF Festival was held in Katowice’s Dolinie Trzech Stawów. This was the tenth anniversary edition of the festival. KEXP-FM has been broadcasting from Seattle since 1972, but today most fans of the station listen on the internet. Since 2004, the American broadcaster has brought its programming to the entire world with an uncompressed 1.4 MB/s stream (in 2004, it was groundbreaking and innovative). KEXP-FM is known for broadcasting an interesting and wide selection of music, including artists from all over the world and in-studio concerts. These concerts are not only broadcast but also available for viewing on YouTube. Co-operation between OFF Festival and KEXP-FM is made possible by the support of Don’t Panic! We’re From Poland.
