Created in 1887 by Polish Jew Ludwik Zamenhof, Esperanto was conceived as a universal language promoting peace and communication between people around the world. Its regular grammar and intuitive vocabulary based on word roots from Indo- European languages was intended to guarantee that the language was easy to learn.
But with 70% of Esperanto vocabulary coming from Romance languages, and about 20% from Germanic languages and English (the rest is of Slavic origin), you can actually try your hand at understanding Esperanto with no real beforehand learning experience.
