Capturing Freedom Short Film Contest 2018
The Adam Mickiewicz Institute/Culture.pl and the Transatlantyk Festival have announced the 2nd edition of the Capturing Freedom International Short Film Contest. The slogan of this year's edition is 'Creating the Future'. In 2018, Poland celebrates 100 years of independence – it is the perfect moment to reflect on the meaning of 'freedom'.
Freedom can be understood not only through the prism of community, society or nations but also from a personal standpoint – like the right to communicate one’s own culture and values to others. Freedom may be seen as a bridge established between tradition, the present day and the future, or a road to creating and pursuing dreams. In 2018, Poland celebrates 100 years of independence – it is the perfect moment to reflect on the meaning of 'freedom'. A nation not able to share stories about their culture is never truly free, just as individuals who are refused the right to communicate their own experiences and emotions become enslaved. Participants in the Capturing Freedom: Creating the Future contest are invited to share what 'freedom' means to them.
The organisers of the Capturing Freedom contest invite young filmmakers to explore the meaning of freedom, to share the stories of people who present their culture openly, show interest in stories of others and are open to dialogue. The history of one’s own country, neighbourhood, local community or personal experiences may serve as a source of inspiration. Freedom and dialogue established between two or more people may lead to the development of entire societies or countries in the future.
The contest is open to film school students of graduates, up to the age of 35. Submitted films should not be more than 10 minutes long. The creators of the best short films will be invited to Poland a special award ceremony, which will take place during the Transalantyk Festival in Łódź.
The film shorts must be submitted by no later than 7th May 2018 via the submission form.
The best films will be chosen by a jury comprising:
Wojciech Staroń – Director, Cinematographer
Jacek Wasilewski – Media Expert, Social Communications Specialist
Joanna Łapińska – Program Director of the Transatlantyk Festival
Grzegorz Skorupski – Film Expert at Adam Mickiewicz Institute
The authors of three best short films chosen by the jury will win GoPro cameras and an all expenses paid trip to the Transatlantyk Festival in Łódź (13th - 20th July). Three of them will be selected by the jury. The fourth winner will be chosen by the internet users during online voting. The winners will present their films during special screenings at the festival.
